About PA RC&D
In the November 1991 Penn Soil RC&D Council, Penn’s Corner RC&D Council, Endless Mountains RC&D Council, Pocono Northeast RC&D Council, Headwaters RC&D Council, and Southern Alleghenies RC&D Council formed a statewide organization to aid and support the efforts of all six (6) RC&D Councils. Over the years as new RC&D Councils were formed in Pennsylvania, they too joined the PA Association of RC&D Councils bringing the current membership level to nine (9).
The purpose of the Pennsylvania Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils is to support the nine (9) local RC&D Councils by developing and strengthening partnerships at the state and national levels.
In 1996 55 people attended a three (3) day Strategic Planning Conference in Ligonier, PA to develop the organization’s first Strategic Plan. This plan has been updated several times over the years and the PA Association of RC&D Councils is currently implementing its 2009-2013 Strategic Plan.
The Association sponsors an Annual Meeting for its members and partners to meet, exchange ideas, and learn about the activities of other RC&D Councils. In addition it has sponsored training workshops, and has hosted Mid-Atlantic Association of RC&D Councils Conferences.
